I can’t say I have Found My Way yet. But I do think, regardless, I should have goals. And I do. However, I am revising and updating them today.
We all know what Goals are, but do we know how to truly set and then execute on them?
Here are some things to remember:
Set High Level Goals such as Career, Financial, Physical, etc (think of them as Category Goals)
Set Smaller Goals under each High Level or Category Goal
Goals should include:
- What the Goal is – State it boldly and with Detail
- How are you going to Achieve – be explicit with the individual steps
- What is the timeline – write down target or completion dates
- How to evaluate – what is the process to ensure you are on target
Once you have set them, you should ensure that you review them regularly (whatever regularly means to you) and that you continuously update and re-evaluate them.
Here is an example of a Goal:
I want to make 175% of plan in FY14. I am going to do that by determining my target accounts, understanding the white space, picking the sales plays, finding the low hanging fruit, creating close plans and ensuring that I on top of every opportunity. I will work on this daily by creating to do lists, looking at SFDC, working with my team, utilizing my resources, etc. I will evaluate weekly. Additionally, each day I will look at my list of to do’s and ask myself if this is helping me get to my 175% goal. There is a lot more that I could do to expand on and get more detailed and explicit. I have done that for my goals. But as I said, I will be updating them, potentially setting new ones or changing my existing ones a bit.
I look forward to doing that today and this evening. Yay!
