Before we Start…
A little secret…

Now on to the TOUR!
The Kitchen is the Heart of the Home!
I know that we spend a lot of time in ours.
We definitely love our coffee and are always in there, if not for anything else, making a cup. 🙂
Don’t you love my coffee machine? I do!
But more important…can you see my fabulous Redneck Wine Glass from my dear friend Dana Koger? And the Wine Aerator from my great friend Livia Hernandez? Both were gifts for my 40th Birthday! Love my friends. And love that I can look at those items and be reminded of them daily!
But back to the Tour! 🙂
Originally…I did not love my kitchen. Honestly…I still do not.
What I don’t love about it is that it seems too busy. There is the grain of the wood, the backsplash and then the countertops that combined are just too much!
But to makeover such a space would be so ridiculously expensive.
And most people that enter into my kitchen think it is fabulous. The focal point definitely has to be the custom made hood cover.
So…I have learned to like it (sigh) and have made it my own with the decor and the personalization (is that even a word?).
Personalization such as the command center. Having one is key, at least in this family. My main center is in the breakfast area where all of our activities are on a visible calendar. This one is used to primarily display my travel itinerary for the week.
As you can see, Emma uses the bottom half to draw. In the corner are her step stool to help me in the kitchen and the memo board, of which I really have no use for currently. The memo board, however, was my inspiration as I started adding my turquoise pop of color to my brown and red base throughout the common areas.
Speaking of…as you can tell…my primary color is red (imagine that??!!).
Because the kitchen already seemed so busy, the only spot, other than the memo board, where turquoise can be found is on the kitchen island.
An island?!?! How ironic?!?! Its an island and the only turquoise piece is on an island. Ha!
Of course, you can see turquoise in other parts of my house as I have a view into the kitchen area and the living room (although you don’t see much of that color in these pictures below).
There are other elements, other than just red and turquoise that I have brought into my design. Primarily it is the incorporation of the bamboo.
Some interesting points…
Yes…that is fresh water on the top right picture. I use the board for my wine glasses…a place for them to dry, rather than in the sink.
The bottom left is a compost container because we do compost! Would you have guessed that?
Did you notice the Red Liquid Soap Bottle in the top left? I love it. Found it randomly and knew immediately what I wanted to do with it.
And in the bottom right picture you will see the german cutting boards that they use often when they have bread, sandwich meat and cheese kinda nights (or days)!
On the topic of food…we do more than just make coffee in our kitchen for sure. Food is key and we try to plan our meals weekly. We have a menu board to make note so that we don’t forget and can anticipate. If I am being honest though, we don’t use our menu board as often as I would like and we do not plan each evening as we should. Its the thought that counts right?
So!!!
It is the Heart of our Home for sure!
I am glad that you were able to join me on this tour.
It was fun being your guide!!!
