Valentines Knitted Hat Pattern

By: denise designed

Wanted to highlight a Craft from one of my fabulous Blog Friends:  Allie from Crafty Allie.  Stop by her FB page and Like!

Valentines day is not just about falling in love or celebrating the day with your sweetie. It’s also about dressing up, and looking adorably Valentines.
But who says it has to be just one day? I say bring out all the sweetie fashion starting as of February 1st.

I love dressing my 8 year old up too.
I made this hat just for her, and I’ll show you how to make it too!

I used a soft fuzzy off white yarn for the bottom part and then a thick soft maroon wool yarn for the top.

I knit my hats using a knitting loom. For my daughter’s head size I used an oblong 38 peg loom.

Using the off white color yarn, make a slip knot. Tie the knot around the first peg of the loom.
Wrap the yarn around the peg to the left of the first peg, starting at the back, around  the front, and to the back again.
Push all the loops down to the base of the loom, so they sit at the bottom of the pegs.
Wrap each peg again, starting with the first peg, then moving left. When you’re done, you will have 2 loops on each peg.

Take the hook and pull the bottom loop over the top and off of the peg. Do this to all of the pegs. As you pull the yarn up and over, slide the loop that remains back down to the base of the peg.
Continue making loops and pulling the existing ones over the new loops (repeating the previous two steps). Each time, you make a row of knitting for the hat. The knitting will hang down the middle of the loom. The bottom row is your first row of knitting.
Proceed wrapping and knitting over for the first 20 rows.

To change colors simply make a slip not and place it on the starting peg. It’s a simple as that.
Knit with the maroon color for another 18 rows.

You can also look at step by step pictures on my Knitted Pumpkin Hat post.
When the knitting is long enough for a hat (about 6-7″ or 15-18cm for a child hat) cut the yarn, leaving about 2 feet (60cm) of yarn to work with.

Thread the yarn tail through a blunt needle.

Take the loop off the first peg and thread the yarn through it.

Move to the left, repeat for the remaining pegs.

Pull the yarn tight. Push the needle through the top center. Turn hat inside out. On the inside top of the hat, make a few stitches, then secure the loose end with a knot. Then cut the tail.

You can view the directions on my blog post Crochet Flowers
to see how to make them. I started with the maroon color then added the off white color for the second and third layer. I then added a heart button. I found these a long time ago and have a stash of them. If you’d like to purchase some from me, please contact me and I am happy to sell some to you.
Newborn through adult Baby Valentines knitted hat / toboggan can also be used for photography / photo prop or you choose color

I am also selling these hats for anyone who is interested.
You can get them at my Etsy shop.

When you get a chance stop on my blog, for other crafts, and recipes!
Thank you so much Denise for having me as a guest blogger!

Have a Happy New Year Everyone!
