Shop in your own backyard…
Well…not your own backyard really?!?! But definitely local. We all go to our neighborhood Kroger or HEB or drop by the Outlet Malls or even shop our favorite department store in the nearest mall.
Shopping local means working with the businesses here in your area…not the major chains.
Regularly we search for service providers such as plumbers, technicians, etc because, for the most part, we do have to request local representation in order to get something repaired, constructed, altered and/or maintained.
But when we have Nordstrom’s (one of my favorites) or the Hallmark store or whatever chain you like to shop…why worry about shopping with local small businesses? Those chains have everything you need. And when something has to be returned, you can take it to any location.
Well…shopping local means that you give back to your community and support your fellow neighbors and friends.
What you will find is that you still receive the same, and sometimes, even better service. And it doesn’t mean you can’t continue to shop at your favorite store like White House Black Market or Off Saks. Let’s be honest, there are some distinct reasons why I love Nordstrom’s (shoe department is fabulous). Just means that when you can, make it a point to seek out your local store or entrepreneur and shop there for the things that will help their business to thrive.
I will highlight some this week on the denise designed FB page. But for now, I leave you with a great article from the Institute for Local Self Reliance.
